Beware of choosing of Badminton Tournaments

Sri Lanka Badminton wishes to enhance the knowledge of parents and players in choosing of tournaments to play in future.

Sri Badminton conducts nearly 6-7 tournaments a year apart from the Junior Nationals tournament and other age category tournaments conduct by the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association (SLSBA).

Sri Lanka Badminton has introduced a ranking system for all age categories starting from under 11 to under 19 and main 5 events (MS,MD,WS,WD and XD) and veterans and Masters too.

Accordingly players for overseas tournaments will be selected by the Selection Committee from the respective ranking lists maintain by SLB. No consideration given for any other achievements out side SLB tournaments.

Therefore, playing of other Badminton tournaments which are not sanctioned by SLB specially by school players is a waste of time and money. Therefore being the apex body of badminton in Sri Lanka request the parents and players to beware of selection of tournaments in future.

SLB requests the players and parents to browse the SLB website for further details.

Nationals and Junior Nationals in Kurunegala

Answer to the news published in Nations News paper on 9 October 2016.

Badminton is not in Chaos but in safe hands.

As the writer correctly say both Mercantile tournament and Nationals will be held during the same period. But no clash at all as tries to highlight by the writer. Both programs will be arranged on amicable basis thanks to the officials of both associations.

I hope writer has got wrong information with regard to the number of matches of the Junior nationals. The SLB and SLSBA agreed to conduct preliminary rounds of Junior national in Colombo from 22-23 October and the matches from Quarter final onward will be played in Kurunegala.

Further the organizers have arranged 7 courts in two different places to conduct this tournament in Kurunegala. Therefore no rush will be experienced in this tournament. The new concept i.e Playing Nationals and Junior Nationals together shows the unity of the sport where as many National associations have clashes with their school associations.I hope this kind of initiatives should be appreciated by media without giving wrong information to the general public.

Further the critic of advancing the tournament is totally denied and request the writer to check the Tournament and Activity calendar of Sri Lanka Badminton published in Sri Lanka Badminton Web site in April 2016 to get the correct picture.

The Minister of Sports will grace the occasion, but it is to emphasis that the tournament dates were fixed in this year April by the SLB but not to accommodate the Minister as accused by the writer.
